PRESIDENT & CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER

Robbie grew up on a South Carolina hog farm where his dad taught him the business. Fourty years of experience in the financial industry as a General Agent for a major insurance company, he founded the company’s investment and financial planning division, one of the first in his industry.

Robbie ran the office of Supervisory Jurisdiction (OSJ) and held a Series 7,24,63 and 65 securities licenses. He earned his designations and certifications because he cares.

He became an independent RIA to serve his clients. Robbie enjoys the ability to act for his clients’ sole benefit without the conflict of being associated with other entities such as broker-dealers. He has experience collaborating with large public companies.

Now, he concentrates on working with the owners of closely held businesses. Robbie enjoys strategizing and maximizing business owners’ exit plans.

He believes working as a team with other professionals who complement his experience and expertise is the best way to assist clients. Robbie volunteered his time with several charitable organizations and currently volunteers with the Moore County Senior Enrichment Center.

Robbie moved to Moore County in 2018 and lives in West End with his fiancé, their six dogs, chickens, guineas, and peacocks. They have three grown children and three granddaughters. Robbie enjoys his life as a sheep farmer.

CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER

Ryan lived in New Mexico until 16. His father changed career paths and moved to Los Angeles, bringing Ryan and older brother Robert. Tired of college and wanting to serve his country, Ryan joined the Army in 2004 at age 20. 

After four years of service, Ryan returned to Los Angeles to begin the transition back to civilian life. After dipping his toes in a few industries, Ryan settled on advanced manufacturing. He worked in the aerospace industry as a demand planner, inventory manager, Logistics, and other roles in small companies. 

Ryan met his future wife, Gaby, in college physics class in 2012. In 2015, Ryan and Gaby were ready to say goodbye to California and moved to North Carolina. Ryan and Gaby landed in Southern Pines and lived with his older brother Robert. 

In May of 2016 they found their future farm in Robbins, NC. A 60 acre wooded plot previously used for cattle. After many hours of research and talking with farmers, Ryan and Gaby decided to start raising ostriches in December of 2016. 

The passion quickly grew, and Misty Morning Ranch is now one of the largest ostrich farms in the southeastern US. In 2018 and 2021, more family moved to North Carolina to help run the farm. Ryan, Gaby and other family members run the farm today.

CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER & SECRETARY

David worked as an accountant for over 35 years serving as the Chief Financial Officer and Chief Operating Officer for several large businesses. Twenty of those years, he ran his own CPA practice. 

David taught cost accounting and purchase management courses at several colleges. He assisted startups, guided companies through their growth phasem and owners and companies through the exit phase. David developed and implemented a company-wide cost system that reduced costs and provided real-time access to management throughout the operating environment. 

He has consulted on both the acquisition and sales side of mergers and acquisitions. This experience gives him the direct knowledge to advise startup companies and guide them through their growth phase. 

David currently lives in Cary with his wife, Cindy and two daughters. He has three other children grown and on their own. He enjoys coaching soccer and playing golf. David is active as a member of his church. He is a member of the American Institute of CPAs and the NC Association of CPAs.

PETE MUHLY

DIRECTOR OF OPERATIONS AND MARKETING

Pete grew up outside Baltimore, enjoying most of his time outdoors or playing sports. At 18, Pete decided that scholastics would be put on hold and enlisted in the Air Force where his innovative and outside the box thinking was integral in the Special Operations career path. 

The Air Force also brought together Pete and his wife Shawna, an Air Force Veteran as well, eventually leading them to North Carolina. After nearly two decades of service, Pete was medically retired from service. 

With degrees in Strategic Operations and Operational Management, he put his experience and knowledge to use as a management consultant with Booz Allen Hamilton for five years before coming on board with North State Processing.

Pete now lives in West End with Shawna, and they have two teenage sons. They have a small farm where they raise a variety of fowl species, five horses, goats, pigs, and too many dogs to count. They enjoy educating and raising agricultural awareness through small workshops.

Why process only red meat?

This allows us to continue processing without long shut down periods for sanitization increasing our efficiency and lowering costs.

Additionally, being Halal and Kosher certified limits our ability to process outside of red meat.

If demand becomes great enough, we have discussed the addition of another dislocated facility.

What species will North State process?

Cattle (Steer, Bison, Water Buffalo), Lamb/Mutton, Goat, Ostrich, and Emu.

Where will you be located?

Hamlet, NC – Richmond County.

Will You OFfer USDA Grading?

Yes, through mechanical grading. Grading will either be Prime, Choice, or Select.

Will you offer night before drop-off?

Yes, holding pens will be designed for all harvest animals to be dropped off the day prior.

We understand that travel creates stress and early drop-off allows for the destressing of the animal.

How long can I dry age?

Standard aging is 7 days. Custom aging will be available for up to 21 days.

How long can I leave my animals before processing?

Large holding pens will be available on-site for large producers that need to drop off more than one day in advance.

Arrangements can be made through the online appointment management system or through contact with Operations.

Will you offer custom cut sheets?

Yes.

At the time of appointment, scheduling producers will have the option to choose the standard cut sheet with a hang time of 7 days, or with an additional charge, you may choose a custom cut sheet with custom hang times up to 21 days.

What are the processing rate and capacity of your facility?

Initially 40 heads a day (10k/year) with a planned expansion over the first three years to 160/day (40k/yr).

When will North State be open?

December 2025

What type of packaging will be used for products?

Thick mil roll stock vacuum seal packaging for ground and steaks.

Thick mil vacuum seal bags for roasts, primal cuts, and large or custom products.

We will have the ability to provide traditional grocer-style plate packaging as well if required.

Will custom labeling be offered?

Yes. Custom printed dye cut labeling will be available for products with redundant visual inspection for uniformity.

Will you be federally inspected?

Yes. North State Processing will be a USDA Federally Inspected.

What is your processing price?

There will be a $100 kill fee, $6 disposal fee, and $1.25/lb fee per hanging weight.

Do you price by the pound or by the hook?

We will price by the pound.

Will you purchase animals from producers?

Yes.

We will purchase beef herds and dairy culls by live weight and dairy calves by each.

Will you sell processed meat at your facility?

No, not initially.

Future plans for the facility include a retail site on location for sales.

How do I know that I will get all my product(s) back?

Animals/products will be weighed and reweighed at each step through processing.

The information will be given to the customer via the order summary worksheet, accounting for all products.

How do I know that my animal won’t get skipped or left in the hanging cooler?

Live animals will be RFID tagged at drop-off and tracked automatically by the order management system.

Several large displays in each room of the facility along with individual tablets allow technicians and processors to always maintain schedule and product awareness.
